Audition/College Coaching

A comprehensive approach to training the high school theater student for college acceptance

Are you . . .

  • applying to college?
  • targeting top-rated theater programs?
  • an actor, singer, or dancer in need of some coaching?

You will need to . . .

  • audition in person
  • perform monologues
  • sing songs (musical performer)

Our program . . .

Our program is designed for the serious student of theater who is expecting to study acting or musical theater at the collegiate level.  Clients will receive professional coaching on prepared audition material. We offer a program that prepares each talented applicant to meet theater school, drama department, and music conservatory requirements.

College Coaching is an in-depth process of selecting audition material and preparing for the rigorous college audition circuit.  Ideally, the coaching begins in late August/early September and is completed in February (depending on the student’s audition schedule); however, we design the timeline according to each student’s needs.  Therefore, if a student requires/ desires more or less time, we are happy to work that out.  We are committed to providing the student with the preparation necessary to achieve acceptance into top-rated programs.  Our goal is to make the experience both a positive and productive one.

What you receive . . .

  1. University and professional program guidance
  2. A personalized selection of monologues: contemporary, classical, dramatic, and    comedic – cut and timed in accordance with each school’s specifications
  3. Song selection guidance:  contrasting and in accordance with each school’s specifications
  4. Private coaching for all pieces (using your cd accompaniment)
  5. Resume (and portfolio, if applicable) review and guidance
  6. Admission essay editing, review, and guidance
  7. Coaching in personal presentation
  8. Mental and emotional training and guidance to prepare for this arduous process

Packages available . . .

Because theater is a public art, many feel that preparing with “an audience” is more beneficial.  In the GROUP PACKAGE, students work and prepare in hour-long sessions with 2 other students (3 total).  This allows all of the students to learn from each others’ performances.

For the student who feels that one-on-one is better for him while preparing for the college audition, an INDIVIDUAL PACKAGE is available, where the student works and prepares in hour-long sessions with only the coach.  This allows the student the coach’s complete attention to the students’ progress.

I have definitely grown as a person and as a performer, and I feel that I am able to do things on stage that I never saw myself doing until Mr. May made me aware.  Mr. Mays’ devotion and honesty has been incredibly helpful to me as an aspiring actor.  He has only brought out the best in me and has been one of the most influential teachers I have had in my high school career.

I really enjoyed working with Matt. He made everything click and tied up all of the loose ends. He explained everything in a really personal and approachable way. He was understanding and compassionate. I felt confident in my performance after working with him.

It was a thrill working with Mr. May.  He really helped me grow as an actor in my biggest show yet!  He was fun, creative, clever, and took a unique, but effective route to helping me spot my weaknesses, and ultimately, fixing them.  Whenever I had a question, I knew I could turn to him for help. I really hope to work with Mr. May again, since he is so fabulous!  I thank him dearly from the bottom of my heart; you’re the best Mr. May!
